Building a community of practice in biodiversity data management

A community of practice is formed when people come together to engage in a process of shared learning around a common theme or topic. The community is formed by individuals who share a common concern or passion, and they come together to explore these concerns and ideas, and share and grow their practice. In our case, the theme is making biodiversity data accessible so it is used in evidence-based decision making. The individuals represent an enthusiastic team creating an interdisciplinary collaboration to address the need for biodiversity data.

We are in the practice of making biodiversity data accessible to serve policy, management, and decision-making. We have found that creating a community of practice is a critical aspect of achieving this goal.
